Welcome to the final Spring Term edition of the ‘Whistle’.
We have reached the Easter break having completed a very busy Spring Term.
Easter is a time of hope and renewal, a time to celebrate triumph over travesty. It is also an ideal opportunity to reflect on the importance of collaboration, and how, by working together, we are far better placed to overcome challenges and achieve our collective goals.
As such, I wish to thank everyone for your support as we continue to ‘bounce back’ from the pandemic. We have not let the obstacles presented by COVID dampen our aspiration and collective desire for all of our children to succeed. Indeed, our success with early reading is going from strength to strength to the point where more WeST young children are meeting the expected standard at Phonics Screening Check (PSC) than pre-COVID. We are on track for 90% of children reaching this standard.
We have enjoyed many successes across all facets of school life including our collective work being validated by several very successful Ofsted inspections.
Several of our schools have either just changed, or are in the process of changing, leadership. I am delighted that five of our newly appointed headteachers have secured promotion to headship from within the WeST family.
In summary:
Buckfastleigh Primary School - Mrs Laurie Archer
Eggbuckland Community College - Ms Heather Lilley
Oreston Community Academy - Mrs Amy Chivers
Plympton St Maurice Primary School - Mr Chris Rickard
Plymstock School - Mr Alan Yendell
Woodlands Park primary School - Mrs Eve Vollans
I am sure you will join me in wishing them, and their schools, every success.
Before I close, I must take this opportunity to signpost the need for us to improve the level of pupil attendance. For each and every child to benefit from the blend of education in which we believe, they need to be in our classrooms every day.
May this Easter bring you and your family peace, joy and hope for the future.
Best wishes
Rob Haring, CEO
